If you have been following us on our social media, you should know that we just had a photo shoot this past Sunday at the Collective with Allison Izu’s newest Spring/Summer 2017 collection.
YM: First of all, where did you get your inspiration from?
A: Most of my designs are always inspired by my customers first, the styles they love, that make them feel beautiful and special. I try to recreate that feeling for them in new styles and designs.
For this season, I tried to incorporate more prints and really wanted to show my culture - being from Hawaii and also my Japanese background. It's such a unique lint of view, and now that I'm expanding into the national market, I think customers will appreciate this point of view.
YM: I see. What fabrics and color you are using?
A: As everyone knows, I love beautiful yummy fabrics. So I love to use viscose/spandex, which is super cool and comfy. It drapes nicely on the body but can still hide the sins too! (LOL)
I also tried to use more chambray, I am in love with chambray! It's such a great natural fabric that looks good on everyone, breathable for our Hawaii weather!
YM: Looks very easy breezy and comfy to wear! Any fun styles that you are trying to deliver this Spring/Summer?
A: I try to really listen to my customers, so a lot of people have been asking for a romper. But instead of making a romper, I designed a matching set, that you can wear together (as a romper) or separately with other pieces in your closet!
I also am trying to incorporate more dresses and I've been wanting to do a boyfriend shirt dress. So we did a fun two-tone chambray dress, which I am obsessed with. I think I will be the first one in line for this dress!
YM: That’s exciting! Especially in Hawaii, T-shirt dresses are perfect for every seasons. For student like me, I can just throw it on and ready to go. Effortless! Anymore new design?
A: Our customer favorite the Misa top, has been resigned to be a boatneck, super flattering and such a great alternative to our usual Misa top! I hope the customers will love it as much as we do!
Thanks Allison for the short Q&A. Here are some previews for the Spring/Summer 2017 collection!
